My father is due to have this treatment and was told that his pet cat cannot sit on his lap due to risk of radioactivity from the seed implants. Has anyone had this problem? Distance from others after Calypso prostate cancer treatment?

My father in law just underwent the Calypso treatment for his prostate cancer. It’s an electromagnetic ‘gps’ inserted into the tumor or prostate that allows the doctors to pinpoint the tumor while radiating, salvaging the healthy cells.
My questions is….what are the specifics behind how long and how far away (if at all) he must stay from pregnant women and young children. I understand there are guidelines for other types of ’seed’ radiation treatments for prostate cancer, but I can’t seem to find any details for Calypso. Anyone with experience in this field or experienced this personally?
I was thinking the ‘implants’ wouldn’t be radioactive in this case, so wouldn’t cause trouble like the iodine and others do. But what about the actual radiation that they’re exposed to during the treatment part. Does that ’stick around’ in or on their body? Would that cause any concern for pregnant women or young children?

What now, it seems that terrorist the Scots freed may not be dying after all?

The evidence provided by the doctor is crucial as compassionate release under Scots law requires that a prisoner has less than three months to live.

Doubts about Megrahi’s life expectancy have already been raised by American relatives of the 270 victims of the bomb that blew up Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie on 21 December, 1988. But last night the Scottish Government said it would not publish details of the individual who gave the crucial advice.

Mr MacAskill has said he based his decision to release Megrahi on the opinions of a range of experts.

But this is contradicted by a decisive report sent to Mr MacAskill on 10 August.

While it noted that four prostate cancer specialists – two oncologists and two urologists – were consulted, the summary said: “Whether or not prognosis is more or less than three months, no specialist would be willing to say.”

After surgery for Testicular cancer?

After having the testicle removed (thats all they told me), shouldn’t normal ejaculation return? I do not recall them saying other wise, it was stage one. And that ability has not returned. And the sex drive has really gone down, (no desire for it or solo sex).
Is this normal?

Prostate Cancer Prognosis after radical prostectomy that left micro cells. When I am 80 dont want pain.?

I had a aggressive cancer grow in my prostate. The prostate was removed in surgery, but four or five years later a doctor found a PSA level of 11. He convinced me to go on Lupron (sp?) which is a hormone to get rid of all testosterone in body and cut off food supply to any microscopic cancer cells in my body. Several tests have shown no sign of cancer cells before or after the every-three month injections began and PSA went down from 11 to 3.

Now, the doc sort of casually mentioned that score is good, but the hormone treatment only works for 10 years. After leaving the office, I thought, this guy just gave me eight years to live. Now that is not like being told you have a month to live like in the movies, but it is not too long.

What happens then? Does prostate cancer start growing all over my body? In the bones? Will it require chemo and radiation and will I have extreme pain from this cancer if it gets in the bones? That is what I am wondering and wondering how to end it all
